Dale Alverson, MD
Senior Pediatrician
Dr. Alverson is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, OB/Gyn, Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center, and Regents’ Professor at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine, where he served on faculty for nearly 40 years. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1966–1969), he graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Medical School, completed pediatric residency at the University of Colorado in 1977, and a neonatology fellowship at the University of Michigan and UNM. He joined the UNM faculty in 1982 and was Neonatology Division Chief from 1988 to 1997.
Beginning in 1995, Dr. Alverson served as Medical Director and later strategic consultant for the UNM Center for Telehealth, where he led numerous statewide and international telemedicine efforts. He is a past president of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and currently co-chairs its Global Health Collaborative. He was also Chief Medical Informatics Officer of SYNCRONYS, New Mexico’s health information exchange, and contributed to legislation advancing telehealth reimbursement and access in the state. He has advised global telehealth projects across Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and serves as a consultant to Doctors Without Borders and the Swinfen Charitable Trust.
Dr. Alverson also helped found and chair the New Mexico Telehealth Alliance and has served on the boards of the Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law and Advanced Initiatives in Medical Simulation. He has presented and published widely on telemedicine and serves on the editorial board of the *Telemedicine and e-Health Journal*. He lives in Albuquerque with his wife, Jennifer, and is the proud father of five, grandfather of twelve, and great-grandfather of two.
